“Exploited Entertainment” (Tribute to Sarah Baartman)
4 feet and 11 inches tall, Fabric on Canvas (2013)
Inspired by issues surrounding society, woman's body image and African American studies, this piece was created to pay respect to Sarah Baartman, a Khoi Khoi woman of South Africa.
This piece was created as a means to speak out about our pop culture and how today's black women (and black men) consciously and subconsciously objectify the black woman with a lack of regard for our ancestry. The black woman was and still is today, "exploited entertainment."
